Johnny and Louise
Maureen belongs to a showbiz family. Her mother was a model and theatrical agent, her father is well know Scottish entertainer and actor Johnny Beattie and her younger sister is actress Louise Beattie.
Maureen also has two younger brothers Mark and Paul who don't
seem to have been bitten by the showbiz bug as far as I am aware.
About Johnny Beattie
He's had hit singles, made films with Hollywood superstars and his television shows have topped the ratings.
Our own Johnny Beattie, a multi-talented entertainer who seems to grow more luminous rather diminished by the passing of time.
Not only does he continue to entertain huge audiences with his Pride Of The Clyde show but he also works to ensure the survival of
Scottish music hall tradition as the loyal champion of Ayr's Gaiety Theatre.
He is probably most familiar from his avuncular hosting of the seminal Scottish game show, Now You See It
He has also turned up on TV in The Chief and Taggart and opposite Liam Neeson and Billy Connolly in David Leland's film adaptation of The Big Man.
Anyone who thinks Robbie Williams' Rock DJ was an original fusing of British street culture with American rap should listen to Johnny's genre-bending hit, The Glasgow Rap.
His easygoing manner and superb comic timimg make him an ideal public speaker and his charm and dignity could educate many of our other stars.
Johnny Beattie plays Malcolm Hamilton
Malcolm lives alone after the death of his wife, Rose, but enjoys the company of his beloved pigeons at the doo loft.
He adores his children, Gina and Eileen, and his grandchildren,
Joanne, Ruth, Brian and Kirsty, even though their modern lifestyles leave him perplexed.
Entertainer and comemdian. Born in Glasgow, Beattie
began his career in an amateur concert party in 1950, but went on to become one of Scotland's best-loved entertainers, in great demand at theatres around the country, on television and especially in pantomime.
He has a particular association with the Gaiety Theatre in Ayr, where he has played on numerous occasions. Beattie has become a regular
in the BBC Scotland television soap opera River City, which hit the screens in 2002.

'A funny, old-fashioned, big-hearted show' - The Scotsman
Charity Work
One of Scotland's best-loved comics, Johnny Beattie,
who stars in BBC Scotland's new soap River City, has kept the country laughing for the best part of the past 50 years, and during that time he has worked tirelessly for a huge number of children's causes.
The former shipyard worker has given a great deal of his time and support to underprivileged and disabled youngsters, without making a big song and dance about it.
Most of his work has been done through the Variety Club of Scotland. Next month the Barkers'(as they like to call themselves) are staging a tribute dinner for him and Johnny has kindly agreed that some of the proceeds raised on the night will go to our campaign.
He said, It's heartbreaking to know some kids will never become adults. Yet whenever I visit a hospice it is these same kids who are always the most cheery. I'm delighted that a sizeable proportion of anything we raise will go to such a good cause."
